A song about the pangs of heartbreak, and the sweet sorrow of parting
The subject matter of this song was unchartered territory for the writer, and inspiration was therefore drawn from the experiences of friends and other significant people in his life – as with most of the tracks on this album. This time around, the stories behind this song were ones about the unfortunate fate of facing a terrible breakup, or a divorce in particular. But the lyrics and up-beat instrumentals echo a message of hope and a chance to begin again. They serve as a reminder that there is a whole world that exists outside of the broken relationship we’ve emerged from, and that there are many people out there who still have so much love to give – and to receive from you too.
This isn’t your typical love-song, but it’s a love song that more people need to hear, because it’s about remembering to love yourself first, and to love life again as you relish in all that it is and all that it’s allowed you to be. To celebrate the fact that you are still a hero to your kids, an irreplaceable friend, an amazing person, and a total bad*ss who can write their own happy ending.
You’ve still got a lot of lovin’ to give.
lyrics
-
And I hope that you’re gonna be fine
Old friend of mine
Lost time, gotta pack your things
And wasted metal rings
And its no ones fault
When the worlds all wrong
There’s a billion hearts
And three page forms
So hold your
Heart pieces
Fix em up with tape
And cheap drinks
Save your
Heart pieces
You’ll need em
You’ll need it
So set your compass straight
‘coz walking looking back
Won’t do you great
you’re not that old my friend
And you’re still a pretty face, in the end
You can go high
And fly
You can be
All you need
You can go high
Yeah
Promises were made
Forevers were said
Nothing stays unbroken
But nothings dead
You’ll do okay
Going your own way
Don’t cry babe
Over good riddances
The skys clearing
So don’t be grey
And fly, girl, instead of falling
its calling, its calling now
Freedoms come calling
So wash those tears away
Make room for smiles and better days
If theres still that spark in your eyes
Theres still some beauty in goodbyes
Theres still some beauty in goodbyes
You can go high
Yeah
yeah, yeah
Save your heart pieces
you’ll need em
you’ll need it.
